Hello viewers, guests, random stumblers, and my-future-self when I look back on this in the future,
I do not intend to make journal entries a consistent thing, as I have many other obligations that I need to be putting my energies into, and I sadly must prioritize. However, I am tired, I am procrastinating on a 16 page research paper due Monday, and I felt like a Christmas wishlist for an art exchange was a tacky first journal to be on my profile page in mid-March, much like Christmas lights on a house in summer. Therefore, I hope you will permit me to express myself for a bit.
So, first order of business, my miniature spike in activity last fall, and my apparent disappearance since:
Last fall I was in Italy studying abroad in the heart of Tuscany, taking numerous trips to exotic locations such as Rome, Venice, London, Ireland, and many trips to Florence. Along with that came ample free time for creative expression (especially once my travel money ran out). I had a lot of time to draw, traditionally and digitally, and to watercolor, in which I actually took a class. Therefore, the juices were flowing and I had a chance to become a marginally active member of DA. I really enjoyed getting to experience all of the fan communities I joined, including and "pkmn-ranger-station," which, literally during the writing of this journal, I discovered is actually now-defunct. I really enjoyed this environment.
Now, in the present, is a different matter. I have started graduate school, seminary to be precise, and I have started a part-time job waiting tables. I no longer have time to spend hours poring over Photoshop or a sketch book; I don't even have time to finish all of my class readings or have a consistent quiet time with God. Perhaps I would if I didn't spend as much time on the internet, or if I developed some self-discipline, but I think I would go batty. I really miss the time I had to draw, sketch, and doodle, but as mentioned above, I must prioritize, sadly. I hope you don't think too much less of me for it.
Second order of business, the disproportionate work from various fan communities AKA massive quantities of Pokémon stuff:
As I hope is apparent, I am a nerd. I like sword-and-sorcery fantasy, Lord of the Rings, science fiction, Star Wars, Firefly, Pokémon (henceforth spelled without the diacritical mark for ease of typing), Digimon, .hack, Avatar (James Cameron), even retro Power Rangers material, and a lot of other stuff. However, it seems I have only found thriving fan communities on DA for Pokemon. There is more work posted in that "genre" (for lack of a better word) than any other I can find by orders of magnitude. Therefore, it is only natural that more gems pop up there. This makes me feel that other communities, such as Star Wars fans and Browncoats, aren't getting proper representation.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy good works of Pokemon and Trainers (check out these guys: Turtleshelltered's piece for End Run, turtleshelltered.deviantart.co… is one of my all-time favorite Pokemon pieces in terms of sheer professional quality and wall-power; or Ultra-Adeline's character Char, ultra-adeline.deviantart.com/a… , which is the best Pokemon OC that I have ever come across; or Petah55, , who has a great series of Pokemon sketches), but I wish I could find the same quality in other demographics. If you manage to know of a group of page that may interest me, please let me know.
I think that gets the majority of pressing matters out of my head. Thank you for this moment of your time.
