Team Shot by BCM00
Team Shot
This is an entry for :iconpetah55:'s contest petah55.deviantart.com/journal…. It is a group shot of a team I assembled specifically for this contest.  I fear I deviated from the contest prompt a little bit, as it asked for my favorite team.  Indeed, I like all of these Pokemon, but they have never all been on my team at the same time.

Description for Petah's contest:  Nidoking and Dragonite are two of my all-time favorites, having a place on my team in every generation since I first played Red and Blue as a kid.  Lapras has been a good standby, and I really liked using her with the Rain team I ran during generation V.  I feel she has never gooten the love she deserved, so I try to fit her in when I need a Water-type.  Ledian is a purely sentimental choice, being the Power Ranger Bug who never got a fair shake (Seriously, GF?  Iron Fist and punching moves with a base 35 Attack?  That's just cruel).  Houndour was purely an odd-ball addition since  I felt the team needed a Fire-type to round it out a bit, and I think he looks cool.

Artistic comments:  This was my first time using SAI, and so far I have been really impressed.  The pen stabilizer makes lines come out so much cleaner than I was ever able to make them in PS, and it runs so smoothly, even on my decrepit 7-year-old laptop.  However, I do miss some of the bells and whistles, such as text capabilities.  As for the deviation itself, I feel there is a lot of room for improvement.  My colors seem flat, but I don't know how to overcome it, and my shading hardly adds much shape to the characters.  I think the lineart turned out nicely, but could be pushed even further.  This might be easier with a smaller format.  The background is also lackluster, and if I have time I'm going to redo it.  It was meant to be simple and non-distracting, but in the end it just turned out "blah."  As for the size, I originally planned for it to be wallpaper sized, but I don't think I did the format justice.  I think I'm going to try some smaller sized pieces for a while before I get so ambitious again.  Any comments or constructive criticism would be welcome.

Howdy guys and gals!  Long time, no see!

So, between taking some time to play Bastion, and to return to Skyrim and SWTOR for a bit, I went through several rewrite phases (including a 12,000 word draft and two 1500 word revisions), and I think I finally have the plot and characters where I want them.  There is certainly room for the story to change and grow as interest and creative discovery allows, but I wanted to have a good roadmap for where Jackson's Groundlocke could go.  On the art side of things, I downloaded a trial of SAI, and I must say I'm impressed.  The stabilizing feature makes linework much more fulfilling, and less maddening.  I am now working on some rough character designs for the team and getting familiar with the toolbox.

There is a concern that I have regarding this nuzlocke project, though.  Looking at my story outline roadmap, it's going to be a lot longer than I had hoped.  For my first nuzlocke comic, I really had hoped to start with a manageable project, something that I could conceivably finish in a few months, or maybe a year.  However, I have acknowledged that is not going to be the case, but I would still like to give myself the best chance to reach the end.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be very appreciated.

A Texan, and proud of it. God gave me an interest in, and the gift to express myself through, visual art. I hope to glorify Him and make connections with other people, through this great website.

I am into almost everything nerdy, and enjoy a good chat.

Definitely.  I saw a page of your nuzlocke, and I wanted to make sure I could find it later to read the rest.  It looks pretty good so far.

Thanks.  Actually, the run is over; I'm just waiting for classes to settle down so I can begin writing the adaptation.
